Tusten Postcards Exhibit - Summer, 2025

Photo postcards often provide us with the only known images of buildings, lakes and rivers important to TMR and local history.  Most were professionally photographed.  Before WWI, most were printed on high-quality presses and imported from Germany.

     

Between 1905-1915, also known as the Golden Age of Postcards, millions of postcards were printed, imported, sold and mailed. The public loved mailing and collecting postcards.  This was the era when newspapers rarely printed photographs and almost never in color.  Many public buildings, lakes and rivers and almost every tourist farm house, boarding house and hotel in the region had their own postcards.  The Half Moon Lake Hotel (and its predecessors) issued over 20 postcards.

During the summer of 2025, the Ten Mile River Scout Museum will host an exhibit entitled “Tusten Postcards.”   It will mainly include postcards from the region prior to the opening of TMR in 1928.
